Frequently asked questions
Will it write my essay for me?
No — and that's deliberate. Fennie's essay tools review and question your writing rather than replacing it. If what you want is a ghostwriter, we're the wrong tool, and honestly so is every tool: the essay was never the point, the thinking was.
Is using this cheating?
Getting feedback on your own draft is what writing centers, peer review, and office hours already are — most academic-integrity policies explicitly allow it. Submitting text you didn't write is a different act entirely. Our integrity guides below map the line in detail; when in doubt, ask your professor what's allowed.
What's free and what's paid?
The editor itself — writing, formatting, autosave, word counts — is free, and so is unlimited chat for thinking through your argument. AI feedback on drafts and generation from essays are premium.
Can it check grammar?
Feedback covers grammar along with structure and clarity, but if pure proofreading is all you need, a dedicated grammar checker is cheaper. Fennie's essay tools earn their keep on the argument level — thesis, structure, evidence.
